Catholicos Patriarch Leaves for France

On 12 May 2009, His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II with accompanied people leaves for France to participate in opening of a new Georgian church there.

The Patriarchate delegation includes Metropolitan Abraham (Garmelia) of Western European Eparchy, Metropolitan Dimitri (Shiolashvili) of Batumi, Lazeti and North American Eparchy, Metropolitan Gerasime (Sharashenidze) of Zugdidi and Tsaishi Eparchy and Chairman of Foreign Affairs Department at the Patriarchate, Archbishop Anton (Bulukhia) of Vani and Bagdadi Eparchy, Archimandrite David (Chincharauli), Archimandrite Constantine (Chincharauli), Archpriest George (Zviadadze), Archdeacon Demetre (Davitashvili), Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II Secretary Shorena Tetruashvili, nuns, and group of singers.

On 14 May, St Queen Tamar’s Day there is to be opened a new Georgian temple St. Queen Tamar’s Church in Paris. It will be consecrated by Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II. The Patriarch together with metropolitans and clergy will serve the first Divine Liturgy there.

Church will be ruled by monk Father Anton (Kandelaki). The church was constructed by Buba Keburia, and architected by Archil Mindiashvili, and painted by Mamuka Mikeladze.

It is scheduled to have some meetings with government authorities of France, Cardinal of France, and Georgian Diaspora in frames of the visiting programme. Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II will serve a funeral to tribute Georgians died in emigration and buried in Levil cemetery.

The Patriarchate delegation is back to Georgia on 15 May 2009.
