India/Kerala/Kottayam: The Senior priest of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, Fr Geevarghese Kallooparambil was honored by His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II – Catholicos of the apostolic throne of St Thomas in the east and Metropolitan of Malankara and Primate of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church. Catholicos and the delegation from the Indian Church visited his residence on the occasion of the 90th birthday celebrations.
A special memento was presented to Fr Geevarghese by Catholicos Baselios Pauolse on behalf of the Indian Orthodox Malankara church. Fr Dr K M George (Renowned Orthodox theologian and Director of Sopana Orthodox Academy), Prof- P C Elais (Director of the Synodal Dept. of Public Relations of the Indian Orthodox Church) and other dignitaries were present for the occasion.
Fr Geevarghese is a senior priest of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India under the Holy See of Antioch and All East. He has made commendable contributions to peace negotiations between Syriac and Indian Orthodox Churches in the past. He has served as the head of the institution of various university colleges in Kerala. He has also served as the Priest Trustee of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India.
The visit paid by Catholicos Baselios Pauolse II to Fr Geevarghese is considered to be one of the primary steps taken by the Indian Orthodox Church to revamp the dialogue with Syriac Orthodox Church.
