India/Kerala/Cochin: His Beatitude Thomas I Catholicose and Metropolitan Trustee of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India said that his Church welcomes the call for peace with the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church by His Holiness Ignatius Aphrem II – Patriarch of Antioch and All East. The Catholicose was speaking at one of the Working Committee sessions of the Antiochian Orthodox Movement in India.

His Beatitude commented that Court verdicts have not produced any last solution for the conflict. It is practical to exist as two sister Orthodox churches in communion within the ancient Oriental Orthodox family. Court cases are to be withdrawn and there should be a resolution based on dialogue. The Patriarch of Antioch is to be accepted as the spiritual head of both churches. There must be mutual cooperation in all areas which will be a great relief for the faithful.

He also added that the five-member Commission/committee (appointed by Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II to restore peace in Malankara) will begin its work at the earliest.
