India/Kerala/Cochin: Catholicos and Maphriyano and the President of the Malankara Episcopal Synod & the Metropolitan Trustee of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India celebrate his 86th birthday on 22nd July 2014.
As part of the celebrations, His Beatitude served Divine Liturgy at St.Athanasius Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Puthencruz, Cochin, Kerala.
Abune Baselios Thomas I was consecrated as the Primate of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India by His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Zakka Iwas on 26th July 2002 at the St. Peter & St. Paul Cathedral in Mor Ephrem Monastery, Ma`arat Sayyidnaya, near Damascus.
Catholicos Abune Thomas Ist is often referred to as St Jacob Burdhana of Malankara of the Syriac Orthodox Church in India for his leadership qualities and spiritual firmness.
