Bulgarian President meets Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew

Sofia. Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov has met Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is paying a visit to Bulgaria on the occasion of the feast of Saint Marina church in the southern city of Plovdiv, the press center of the President’s Office announced.

President Parvanov expressed his satisfaction with the visit of a miracle-working icon of Virgin Mary from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and thanked the Holy Synod of the Jerusalem Patriarchate for the gesture.

The head of state said Bulgarian state has a very good dialog with its Orthodox Church and does everything possible to help without interfering in its business.

The Ecumenical Patriarch said one of the duties of the Orthodox Church is to maintain the orthodox unity and presented President Parvanov with the efforts to convene an orthodox meeting and expressed hope the Bulgarian Orthodox Church will contribute to it.
Patriarch Bartholomew sent best wishes for peace and prosperity of the Bulgarian nation, state and church.
