12/2/2012

The Bulgarian Red Cross has announced a bank account for money donations (in BGN).

Bulgaria’s Orthodox Church has joined the efforts to help the distressed citizens in the aftermath of last week’s disastrous floods in the country.

Donations are gathered in the temples of the Sofia bishopric. The campaign is overseen by Bishop Joan, vicar of the Sofia bishopric, with the blessing of Patriarch Maxim.

Money, clothes and other necessities are being collected in Sofia’s churches, the Focus news agency has informed.

On January 06, the southern village of Biser, Harmanli municipality, was hit by massive flooding after the wall of the Ivanovo dam collapsed, claiming 10 victims.

Svilengrad and a number of other villages in the region also got flooded after the Maritsa River’ s left dike collapsed on Tueasday.

Help has been received by Belgium, Indonesia and Romania, while tents are expected to arrive from Italy.
