Archbishop Rostislav of Prešov Elected as the Metropolitan Primate of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia

Europe: The extraordinary Synod held on 11th Januray 2014, has elected Archbishop Rostislav of Prešov as the new head of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia. Forty nine delegates attended where 87% of the votes were made in favor of Archbishop Rostislav. Archbishop Rostislav also served as the Locum Tenens of the Metropolitan See of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands after the resignation of the former Metropolitan Christopher.
Enthronement of the new primate will be held at the Alexander Nevesky Cathedral in Presov. Exact date and timings will be announced shortly.

However, Archbishop Symeon of Olomouc and Brno, the Locum Tenens, has written to the Ecumenical Patriarch saying that the election is invalid and that a schism has occurred in the Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia. We must await developments.
