Archbishop Jovan VI of Ohrid released from Prison

Belgrade: Archbishop Jovan VI – Primate of the of the Autonomous Orthodox Ohrid Archbishopric of the Serbian Orthodox Church was released from the Idrizovo prison in Macedonia on 2nd February 2015 at 5 pm.
The Appellate Court rejected the appeal of the Public Prosecutor against the Prelate for organized crime and corruption as unacceptable and unjustified. The Archbishop has already served more than half of the sentence in prison. The Archbishop is having poor health condition, hence was allowed to socialize.
The Russian Orthodox Church and Metropolitan Hilaron (DECR Chairman – Moscow Patriarchate) played a key role in negotiating the release of the Archbishop with the Macedonian authorities. In return the Serbian Orthodox Church will revamp their dialogue with Macedonian Orthodox Church who is in schism with main stream Orthodox Churches.
