Baku- Azerbaijan: His Eminence Alexander the archbishop of the Russian Orthodox diocese of Baku and Azerbaijan entered eternal rest on the 10th of June 2021 after a long illness. He was the Archbishop of Azerbaijan since 1999.

The late Archbishop was well known among the Azerbaijani community. He took several steps to improve relations between different religions and denominations. The late prelate also played an important role to maintain peace between the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities.

He was laid to rest on June 13, 2021, in the ‘Alley of Honor’ public cemetery.
