Applications available for 2010 Church Planting Grants
Orthodox Church in America
SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] — The Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Evangelization is pleased to announce that applications for 2010 Church Planting Grants are now being accepted.
“Each year the department awards grants to qualified OCA missions across North America,” according to the Very Rev. Marcus C Burch, who chairs the Department of Evangelization. “The grants are for up to 20,000.00 per year for first year recipients and can be renewed for up to a total of three years. Grants must be specifically used to aid in providing a salary for a full-time resident priest and must be matched by the same amount by the qualifying mission.”
Nearly 30 missions have received Church Planting Grants since the grant program was initiated over 15 years ago. Most of these missions have successfully transitioned to full parish status.
Each year missions that are presently on the grant must apply anew for continuance of their grant. Sent to missions monthly, the grants enable mission priests to devote their full energies to growing their respective communities into parishes.
Applications and a list of requirements for the grant can be found on the OCA website here. Applications must be filled out completely and submitted to the department by September 15, 2009. The grant application must be reviewed and approved by the diocesan bishop prior to submission. After a review and visit by a member of the department, recommendations for qualified missions will be submitted at the fall session of the Holy Synod of Bishops for final approval. Grants begin on January 1, 2010. Missions currently receiving grants must reapply for ongoing assistance.

I seen online that your organization looks to help beginning churches and church groups get started. One of the goals we want to obtain is to get me into some extra training with in the International House of Prayer in Kansas City Mo. it’s self, while my partner continues to work here and getting the basic foundation set (who is a minister with her husband herself). One of the biggest problems are the finances. Watertown is a very poor area and it’s difficult to get started. So if there is any information you are willing to give I’d be greatly appreciated. Hello,My name is Robert Koko. I am involved in a ministry that focuses on evangelism mainly to the rural areas of a country called Uganda, in Africa. We are not getting external funding but have been relying on small donations from the very poor Christians. By God’s grace, we have been able to raise some structures for training and prayer. We, however, need to construct a bore hall in an area where we perform most of the training activities. The cost is about USD 4,500 plus another about USD 300 miscellaneous expenses. This can be paid directly to the service providers. We shall also appreciate if someone or an organization could donate a 500 seater tent to us together with simple public address system. Am a priest planting a church and missions in Turkana together with other three Orthodox priests of the Holy Archbishopric of kenya,but we celebrate the Divine Liturgies and other services under trees,we serve famine-stricken Orthodox christian who because Turkana the district where we are evangelising is a desert and only rely on livestock rearing yet because it has been drought and famine stricken a good number of people go literally with no food and water, only to share with the priest the USD. 90 he gets from the Archdiocese,yet again the prices of foodstuffs is high,so life reallly becomes very difficult and evangelization to an hungry soul becomes hard.
To be sincere Father,life of an Orthodox priest in the desert of Turkana is overburdened and you can’t imagine if you pay a visit to this district what you will see for a priest’s life and the orthodox christians and other people of God is very pitiful and since your life in America is better,you will shed tears uncontrolably.
This district has a life that is apart from being a desert without even ditry water in sufficient amounts,is also characterised with lack of food,unpredictable raids from nearby nomadic tribes in neighbouring countries,poor infrastructure,illiterate people,poor medical facilities which are not in very many places,et cetera.Many people have not known Christ Jesus and our God and though we try we can’t go far because of lack of means of transport to evangelise God and feed them with God in the Eucharist after baptising them.However with the love i have for Orthodoxy and that i want to carry the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ spreading it to those who have known Him yet,I want to suffer,but because of my humanity,i appeal to you Fr. Marcus to come and save the life of a poor priest in the desert by supporting his mission activities in the Desert and you will be blessed.Thankyou very much.I will be glad if my request wiil be considered and may the good Lord and our God be your inspiration in my request.

Need of the project:
The coming of the Lord is at HAND as per Mathew 3:2 No more time as per Revelation 10:6, but the gospel of Jesus Christ is not yet preached all the nook and corners of World. Especially in India because 86% of people are in Hindus. It is our bounden duty to preach the word of God to all of them and bring them to Christ. Our Grace Foundation is established for the purpose and aim to preach the word of God to the people of India especially to the unreached. Our organization is situated in Samayapuram which is a famous Temple city of Hindu God Mari Amman. Thousands of Hindus are coming by walk to worship daily from all over Tamil Nadu.
There is no Christian Church in the City for worship the Lord. Many of the people are searching for a place to worship the Lord and meditate him in a place where God’s presence will be there and a place of quiet and calm. Our Foundation is situated in the National Highways NH45. Daily thousands of trucks, buses, and private cars are passing by our city. They are also need a place to worship and meditate during their journey.
Project Planned:
Our Grace Foundation is planned to purchase a piece of Land and construct a church for the people to come to the city from for away places to worship and meditate upon the Lord. The church will cater all the spiritual need of the people those who are wandering for the peace and happy life.

I am Pastor David Lyanda of Redeemed Gospel

–Kisumu, Kenya. Kisumu is the third largest
Town in Country Kenya bordering a great Lake Victoria.
The Church I Pastor is
5 years old with an average membership of between 120.It is situated on the Western part of Kisumu- Town
in outskirts which is a slum area and a village.
Generally, Kisumu as a Region has been plagued with HIV
&AIDS and is rated the highest in the Country. Due to this, there are many
widows and orphans in the area. Despite Kisumu being the 3rd largest in the Nation, it is still lagging behind
in Socio- economic status. This has affected even Church growth and development
in the area.
Back to my congregation, like most congregation in my area
we are not having the land of our own on which to build the Church structure. Currently,
we hold our services every Sunday in an Orphanage School
in one of the Classrooms. This makes it hard to hold other meetings like Bible
study, prayer meetings Seminars etc.
In addition, it’s very hard to develop and grow in another persons
premise. As a Church we need to build Offices and premises where we can
minister to the people without restriction. Just imagine taking the premise we
normally use on Sunday for service and use it for prayer meeting when classes
are on during the week! By the way who will allow you to do that? Now this is
how challenging it is for us as a Church. We are limited very much and can’t do
much.
The only remedy we have is to relocate to our own land.
Lands in this area are readily available. Now looking at the Church‘s income as
per the moment it’s next to impossible to acquire Land. Our Monthly collections
totals to US$150 due to economical
standards of the congregation as at now. Most of the income takes care of part
of my basic needs as a Pastor. Getting our own land will enable us to build and
establish ourselves. We will be in a
position to set up development project s on the Church land.
We intend and hope to be out of the Classroom to our own
land by Sept S2011 God willing. Once
we get land, we will move and set up a Church structure that will keep us for the
time being as we solicit funds to build something presentable. Therefore,
buying land by August 2011 will be
very appropriate for us.
Now as per the above situation, I as the Senior Pastor on behalf
of my congregation, I here by kindly request for a compassionate grant towards
the same.
