America’s Archdiocese Donates $ 200,000 to Greece

The amount of $ 200,000 has been offered by the Archdiocese of America to the International Orthodox Christian Charity (IOCC) in order to use this money for the urgent delivery of heating oil to 30 charitable institutions located in Athens, Boeotia and in 14 other cities in Northern Greece. This financial amount comes from the Relief Fund for the people of Greece, established for immediate economic assistance to the suffering people in Greece.

According to the announcement, the money is enough for the oil supply for the above institutions and will satisfy their needs for this winter. In the above mentioned institutions, about 1,500 people, children, adults and elderly are being hosted.

Archbishop Demetrios of America, said that this movement “Is both an offer and expression of true love and concern from the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to our brothers who are suffering from the huge economic crisis that hit Greece and Europe.”

The Archdiocese of America, along with the Benevolent Brotherhood have donated a total of $ 1.2 million to assist people in Greece who are suffering because of the current financial crisis.
