In 2009, also on the request of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the authorities prohibited gambling business in Ukraine. This event was positively perceived both by the religious organizations of Ukraine and the society on the whole.
Recently the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine prepared and published on their website the draft law “On Gaming” and initiates revival of gambling business in Ukraine, justifying that by the need to supplement the budget. Casinos, gambling machines, playing card and dice would return. An attempt to legalize gambling business will not work for increase of the authority of the state power in the eyes of the faithful and society. The previous experience testified that the results of this legalization are morality degrading in the society, ruination of the families and depravity of children. Attempting to earn money by exploiting human weaknesses and passions is immoral. In this connection we ask You to pay personal attention to this problem and to do all possible in order that sin in Ukraine was not legalized. We invoke the God’s blessing on Your works,
