I repent for this crime carried out by my government, and for how little I did to prevent it.

Wait aren’t you in schism? Why not convert your church back to the true catholic church under the Roman pontiff. Then you could have some strength in your statements. I don’t have anything to repent of in this matter. As an Orthodox Christian I am not willing to see poison gas used against the innocent. The UK Government did what is right.
The Melkite Greek Catholic Church is not in schism, and the schism of the other Patriarchates doesn’t mean that the faithful of those churches should be subjected to the tender mercies of the jihadi hordes.
What nonsense. Do you think that Assad or anyone else has to remind Syrian Christians that the jihadis who the government is at war with want to exterminate Christianity and destroy civilization? The patriarchs know what Salafism is, what’s it done, what it is doing, and what it will do if it is allowed to succeed. They don’t need Assad to tell them what they already know.
They tell Orthodox Christians in the UK to repent of this – well, Most Blessed Patriarchs, the answer to that is no! I won’t be bringing my support for the Government to Confession, if indeed I ever go to Confession again.
And as for the glorification of the terrorist, murdering and torturing gang of thugs called the Syrian Arab Army – well, Most Blessed and Holy Fathers, if you were here in the 1940s you’d have been glorifying the SS for their crimes against humanity, relying on the texts of those Orthodox hymns of Holy Week calling the Jews the “murderers of God”.
Your government should invite the jihadi barbarians to leave Syria and create their Islamist paradise in the UK. That way, Christianity in Syria can survive and pro-jihadi “Christians” like yourself and your prime minister can become acquainted with Salafism. You talk about the SS, but when your churches are burning and your faithful are beheaded, then you’ll experience first hand what it was like for Jews when the Nazis tried to destroy them to set up their reich.
Contact your MP today and let him or her know that you want jihadis to leave Syria for the UK. Surely if you can cheer them afar, it will be all the sweeter to cheer them when they enter your country and move in next door.
