Kyriaki Karidoyanes FitzGerald, ed., Orthodox Women Speak: Discerning the “Signs of the Times.” Geneva: WCC Publications; Brookline, MA: Holy Cross Orthodox Press. 1999. xi + 201 pp. ISBN 2-8254-1317-8.

The volume of Orthodox Women Speak is a hidden gem. It is the result of two conferences held in Damascus, Syria in 1996, and Istanbul, Turkey in 1997. Published in 1999, the book contains the writings of some 23 distinctive and well-read authors as well as the reports of both meetings. It is available free of charge as a PDF via http://saintcatherinesvision.org, the website of Saint Catherine’s Vision, a non-profit organization of mostly women graduates of Orthodox theological schools seeking to “build up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).

Orthodox Women Speak: Discerning the ‘Signs of the Time’s’ – Book from SCV

The volume is deceptively simple, yet the theology it presents is complex and deep. It also gives a comprehensive overview of the discussions that have been held in the Orthodox Church over a period of many years, the book itself now approaching its 20th anniversary, concerning women in the Church.
