Minsk-Belarus: His Eminence Filaret, former Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk, and the Honorary Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus entered eternal rest on the 12th January 2021 at the age of 86.

The late Metropolitan served as the head of the Department External Chruch Relations of the Russian Church until 1989. He played an important role in the comprehensive development fo the department by initiating dialogues with the scientific and secular world. He was later appointed as the head of the Belarusian Orthodox Church (in 1990).

A highly respected public figure, Metropolitan Filaret also served as the chairman of the Synodal Theological Commission from 1993 to 2011. He was decorated with “Hero of Belarus” award by President Alexander Lukashenko for his outstanding service to the Church and to the Society.
