Dindigul/Tamil Nadu/India: The Second Orthodox Divine Liturgy was held for the Latin Rite Community of Metropolitan Alvares Julius in Chinnalapaty near Dindigul, Tamil Nadu on 22nd November 2014. The Liturgy was celebrated by the priest of the Chennai Diocese of the Indian Orthodox Church in the Tamil language. Metropolitan Yuhanon Diascorous – Primate of the diocese blessed the occasion with his presence along with Fr Pradeep Ponnachan, Fr Markose Geevarghese, Deacon Subin Varghese and Brother Joseph Dinakaran.
Faithful from the St Gregorios Community in Dindigul and St James Independent Catholic Church in Sempatty took part in the Liturgical services. Prayers were also held at the St James Independent Catholic Church in Sempatty.
The Latin Rite Community in Dindigul and Sempatty was rediscovered by Ajesh T Phillip – OCP Delegate of the Indian Sub-Continent and Chief Project Coordinator MARP). The Communities have been transferred to spiritual care the Chennai Diocese of Indian Orthodox Malankara Church. A permanent mission has been set up in Dindigul area.
Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE Society through MARP is involved in a number of field activities aimed at rediscovering the lost missions of late lamented Metropolitan Alvares Julius. OCP Society was also instrumental in revamping the Brahmavar Orthodox Church, of Metropolitan Alvares Julius.
