Great and Sacred Orthodox Synod to be held in 2016

Istanbul: Reports from the Synaxis of the Eastern Orthodox Primates points out that, there has been decision made among the Church heads to organize the great and sacred Synod/Council of Orthodoxy in the year 2016.

A preparatory Council/Committee will set up a headed by Bishop of various Churches to prepare all necessary aspects for the implementation of the Great Council. This will also function as the secretariat of the Eastern Orthodox Churches for the great and sacred Synod.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate wish to hold the Great Council of the Orthodoxy at the historic Church of St. Irene, Old Cathedral of Istanbul next to the Hagia Sophia.

A long discussion was also taken place between the Patriarchs of Constantinople and Russia before the first session of the Synaxis of the Orthodox heads.
