UOC Celebrated Ninth Enthronement Anniversary of Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine

Kyiv – Ukraine: Ninth (9th) enthronement anniversary of primate His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine was held at Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Lavra on 17 August 2023. Celebrations were attended by members of UOC synod members, representatives of local churches, priests, monks, nuns, and many faithful.

According to the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

At the Liturgy, prayers were offered up for peace on the Ukrainian land; for the deliverance of the enemy; prayers were also offered up that the Lord would have mercy on our people and save the desperate and those who had lost their homes, as well as for God’s blessing to people of good will help those who are in need. The Primate asked God for His mercy on the Ukrainian people, asked the Lord to make the state authorities wiser, strengthen warriors with courage, free prisoners of war, heal the sick and give shelter to those who have been deprived of their homes.

After the dismissal of the Liturgy, wishes for long life were expressed to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy. The Chancellor of the UOC read out the greetings to His Beatitude from the Primates of the Antiochian and Polish Orthodox Churches. Members of the Orthodox Church in America made a greeting speech on behalf of the Most Blessed Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America, and Canada, and presented a gift to the Primate – an icon of Saint Herman of Alaska.

The Primate elevated five hierarchs to the rank of metropolitan and archbishop as a token of respect for their labors for the good of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Archbishop Mykolay of Kirovohrad and Novomyrhorod and Archbishop Nathanael of Volyn and Lutsk became metropolitans, and Bishop Tykhon of Romny and Buryn, Bishop Dionisiy of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, and Bishop Andriy of Petropavlivka became archbishops.

Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kamianske and Tsarychanka and Bishop Mark of Borodianka were presented with church awards on the occasion of their personal anniversaries.
