Moscow – Russia: The Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, in collaboration with the Children’s Rights Commissioner and the Country for Children Foundation, carried out several humanitarian projects in Africa, Exarchate’s website reports.

The Country for Children Charitable Foundation allocated funds to set up an agricultural crops farm in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “It is a part of the humanitarian project we implement together with the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church,” Mrs Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of the Russian Federation, wrote in her Telegram channel.

On July 27, 2023, within the framework of the Second Russia–Africa Summit in St. Petersburg, a trilateral cooperation agreement was signed by the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights and the Country for Children Charitable Foundation.

As the Foundation reports, two million roubles have been spent on renting 20 hectares of land, ploughing up and harrowing the field, purchasing seeds and fertilizers and paying the workers. Forecasts for harvest are good, with some 500 impoverished families with children to benefit from it. “Our top priority is to help to tackle the food problem. Malnutrition is one of the reasons behind a high death rate among African children,” Mrs Lvova-Belova noted.

And in Matara village in Kenya, a poultry house for 500 chicks has been built. Equipped with an incubator which was also bought, the poultry house will provide food to low-income families with children on a permanent basis.

“Nine hundred thousand roubles were donated to build the poultry house. The aid came from the Country for Children Foundation. Local parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church will be able to receive poultry free of charge to raise chickens at home,” the Children’s Rights Commissioner also wrote.
