Cairo-Egypt: Following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s re-election with a 89.6% majority, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros II, extended his congratulations to the President, commending the high voter turnout and praising the Egyptian people’s “patriotism and awareness.”

In a statement released on December 18, 2023, Pope Tawadros acknowledged the significant participation of voters, with a turnout of 66.8%, stating: “We value and salute the patriotism and awareness of the Egyptian people, who went out in tens of millions to the ballot boxes to declare their sincere will to complete the process of development and achievements, and to protect the country’s capabilities during this delicate stage.”

The Pope’s statement expressed confidence in President El-Sisi’s leadership, offering prayers for the nation’s future: “We pray that God protects our dear homeland, Egypt, and guide its elected president and its various institutions in all sectors to achieve the benefit of its great people, and place it in the position it deserves.”
