Vilnius– Lithuania: Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, representing His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, held a meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė on February 6,2024.

Lithuanian Orthodox Exarchate Begins Operations Under Ecumenical Patriarch

Accompanied by the newly appointed Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Lithuania, Hieromonk Justinus Kiviloo, Metropolitan Emmanuel discussed matters related to the Exarchate’s ministry within the country, as well as broader topics of mutual interest.

This meeting follows the historic visit of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Vilnius in March 2023, during which he announced the establishment of the Patriarchal Exarchate in Lithuania.

The Prime Minister and Metropolitan Emmanuel engaged in a constructive dialogue on issues pertaining to the Exarchate and broader topics of common interest. Discussions focused on the Exarchate’s role in serving the faithful and contributing to Lithuanian society. Metropolitan Emmanuel also met with the Exarchate’s clergy, conveying the Patriarch’s blessings and emphasizing his personal support for their ministry.
