Malankara/Kerala/India: In the conflict-ridden regions of Nagorno-Karabakh within Azerbaijan, Armenian Orthodox followers find themselves in the grip of severe suffering, a deeply distressing situation that has drawn condemnation from His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Church in a statement issued on 30th September 2023.

Ancient monuments, repositories of cultural and religious heritage, are now being subjected to desecration, while Armenian Orthodox believers bear the brunt of brutal assaults, experiencing immense anguish as a result added the Catholicos.

Catholicos Mathews the Third, in response to the plight of these faithful, has underscored the profound hardships they face on their spiritual journey. He likened their struggles to the trials and tribulations endured by the faithful in their faith. He urged them to persevere with hope and fortitude, seeking solace in prayer. With unwavering faith and resilience, he believes they can rise above their suffering and ultimately achieve victory through Christ.

Catholicos also offered full support to the Armenian Orthodox Church in this period of huge suffering faced by the faithful.
