Tokyo-Japan: Archbishop Seraphim of Sendai and Vicar of Tokyo was elected as the Locum Tenens of the Metropolitan See of the Japanese Orthodox Church (Autonomous) on August 11, 2023. This was made in accordance with the church’s status. The election was announced through an official notification from the Russian Patriarch. In his letter, His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, invoked God’s blessing upon the work of the newly elected Locum Tenens and assured the God-loving Orthodox flock of his prayers for it.

The election was made due to the demise of Metropolitan Daniel of Tokyo and All Japan on August 10, 2023.

Metropolitan Daniel of Tokyo and All Japan Enters Eternal Rest

The funeral service of Metropolitan Daniel of Tokyo and All Japan will be held on August 17, 2023.
