835 New Believers and Converts Baptized in South Africa and Ethiopia

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia:  In the past month, from February 4 – March 3, 2024, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has welcomed 835 new believers and converts through baptismal rites in South Africa and Ethiopia.

A total of 512 individuals were baptized on Sunday, February 4, 2024 in the Dasenech District of Southern Ethiopia at the Church of Debre Bisrat Saint Gabriel.

And in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, 120 converts were baptized on Sunday, February 18, 2024, with the Archbishop of South and West Africa, Kembata, Hadiya, and Silte Dioceses, His Grace Abune Hereyakos, presiding over the ceremony. Additionally, 15 South African deacons and 3 priests were ordained.

And a total of 203 new believers and converts were baptized at the newly built Ashka Agare Saint George Church by the Diocese’s Manager, Aba Meaza Kidusan Adane in the Konta Zone of Ethiopia on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Among those baptized were a protestant pastor with 30 years of service, a protestant musician, two diviners, and two shamans.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church continues to grow and welcome new members from different backgrounds and beliefs within the country and abroad amidst persecution and schism.
