The composed look on his bespectacled face was suggestive of what he was going through. Beneath his looks, in the inner recesses of his heart, were feelings of immense joy – the joy of being enthroned as the bishop of the newly-formed Ahmedabad diocese of the Indian Orthodox Church.
Following his ordination as bishop last year, he sounded optimistic of the future of the church. With ‘youth’ as his focus, Dr Yulios said, “My programmes and activities are centred on the youth of the church. The youth and youngsters association of the church are already active. Guiding and motivating them will be my duty. They will engage themselves in worshipping, studying and serving the society.”
Imparting moral education, he added, would be among his other priorities.
When asked how difficult it would be to bring all the 34 churches of the diocese on a common platform, Dr Yulios replied, “I am keeping a tab on growth and all-round development of every church.”
Dr Yulios further added that technology will be made use of for uniting all the churches for a common cause.
The supreme head of the Indian Orthodox Church, Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose-IInd, will enthrone Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios as the bishop of the diocese of Ahmedabad on Saturday at 7 am.
The enthronement ceremony gives the bishop the official charge of a diocese. A diocese comprises a cluster of churches of different regions.
Giving further information about this newly-formed diocese, vicar of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Ahmedabad, Rev Fr Jogi George, said, “Churches from various regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and the Sultanate of Oman comprise this diocese. Facilitating societal development by building institutions of knowledge and rendering services for uplifting the neglected in the society by engaging in philanthropic activities will be the main aim of this diocese.”
