Yanukovych to pass on prize from International Foundation for Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations to Orphans

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will pass on a prize conferred to him by the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations to orphans, Head of the Presidential Administration Serhiy Liovochkin has said.

“When the International Foundation for Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations awarded its prize to the president of Ukraine, he decided to pass on all of the assets to help orphans,” the president’s press service cites Liovochkin as saying.

The eleventh annual awarding ceremony of the foundation’s 2010 Patriarch Aleksei II Prize titled “For Outstanding Activity for Strengthening the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations. For Strengthening and Promotion of Christian Values in Life of the Society” will take place on January 21 at the hall of the religious council of the Christ the Savior Cathedral under chairmanship of Head of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill.

Yanukovych expressed his gratitude to Patriarch Kirill for the prize, but said he will be unable to be present at the awarding ceremony on January 21 in person.

According to the media, the prize is worth $50,000.
