World Religious Leaders Issue Pre-COP26 Appeal on Climate Change

Vatican City: Pope Francis, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury and representatives of various faith namely Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism and Jainism issued a common the Pre-COP26 appeal on Climate Change. The statement was made at Faith and Science: Towards COP26 meeting at the Vatican City on the 4th of October 2021.

“COP26 in Glasgow represents an urgent summons to provide effective responses to the unprecedented ecological crisis and the crisis of values that we are presently experiencing, and in this way to offer concrete hope to future generations,” commended Pope Francis in his speech.

“We have in the past 100 years declared war on creation… Our war against the climate affects the poorest among us,” stated Archbishop Justin Welby.

Metropolitan Hilarion, the Chairman of the External Relations Department of the Russian Church Church stated that ” the Russian Church believes it to be her duty to promote the strengthening in people belonging to different social, ethno-cultural and professional communities the feeling of common responsibility for the preservation of God’s creation and to support their efforts in this area”.
