Why Spirituality is Essential for Mental Health

Christianity has served as inspiration to artists and poets. It has helped humanity through its darkest times, providing light and comfort. There is a reason that three quarters of Americans pray at least once a week. We need spirituality to give our life meaning and to provide a greater purpose. Below are some of the other main reasons that spirituality is so important for good mental health.
Connection to the Divine
Whatever your religion, spiritual experiences allow humans to connect to something transcendent. When we meditate and pray, we come to understand that we are made in the image of God. This provides an incredibly powerful experience, which cannot be achieved without spirituality.
It also helps us to connect to other humans. There are many verses in the Bible from Genesis 2:24 to Colossians 3:20 showing us the importance of family. By keeping a family together, we can avoid the influence of Satan and remain at peace.
Certainty and Security
Often, we turn to spirituality to provide stability to an otherwise chaotic universe. Tarot cards have a powerful healing effect on the mind because they help a person to examine problems in their lives. Psychics provide a similar service, unveiling a glimpse into a person’s future.
God promises us eternal peace in Heaven. When we connect to Him, we are comforted by the knowledge that all will be well when we leave this place. Those who are godless have no such comfort and live in perpetual fear of death.
Love and Charity
The religious are more charitable than others, according to recent research. In fact, the more religious you are, the more giving you will be. This is because God teaches us to love one another unconditionally and to practice forgiveness.
When you live according to Christ, you put others before yourself. This has been shown to boost mood. You may have found that you get more enjoyment by giving to others than from receiving. Living a devout spiritual life helps steer you towards a more loving and charitable path. This creates a feeling of usefulness in society and helps foster gratitude.
If you want to avoid mental health problems, then you should continue to connect with God. He will provide your life with meaning and certainty. Spirituality will steer you away from harmful practices, towards a life full of love, charity and wisdom.
