Thirty Second Enthronement Anniversary of Patriarch Ignatius Zakka Iwas

Beirut/Lebanon: His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas the Primate of Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch and All East has completed 32 years of Patriarchal Ministry on 14th September 2012. His Holiness was enthroned as Patriarch on 14 September, the feast of the Cross, by Baselios Paulose II, Catholicos of the East, at St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral in Damascus. Ignatius Zakka Iwas is the 122nd Syriac Patriarch of Antioch on the Apostolic Throne of St. Peter and the first Patriarch to be named as Zakka.

The Patriarch is great scholar and has authored a number of books on Christian education, theology, history, and culture in Syriac and has also established established a monastic seminary, the Monastery of St. Ephrem The Syrian, at Marret Saidnaya.

Presently the Patriarch resides at Beirut due to the civil unrest in Syria. The Patriarch recently presided over the Holy Synod of the Syrian Orthodox Church which began on 10th September 2012 at St. Jacob monastery in Atchaneh, Lebanon.
