Third International Conference of Armenian Libraries held in Mother See

From October 6-7, the third international conference of Armenian libraries was held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The theme for the conference is “Preservation of the Past, for the Sake of the Future. The conference has been jointly organized by the Mother See, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and the National Library of Armenia. The conferences were started in August 2009, with the first conference organized by the Krikor and Clara Zohrab Information Center of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America; and in 2012, within the events of the Yerevan World Book Capital and 500th Anniversary of Armenian Typography, the second international conference of Armenian Libraries was organized by the RA Ministry of Culture, Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the National Library of Armenia.

The conference discussed on three main thematic areas:

  1. Organization of book exchanges between Armenian studies programs
  2. 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide
  3. Creation of electronic database of the heritage of Armenian printed works:
    • Creation of comprehensive repository of older Armenian publications
    • Creation of comprehensive repository of Armenian periodical media

The conference  addressed the availability of ancient Armenian books in Armenian libraries and Armenological centers, the completed and in-progress digitization of rare collections, completion of electronic bibliographic works, and visibility of Armenological collections on the web, and conservation and restoration of historical collections.

The conference was held on October 6, in the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The opening was at 9:15 am.
