The Patriarch of Romania Chaired the Consultative Meeting at Cluj

On 15 March 2011, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel chaired the consultative meeting of the Metropolitan Synod of Cluj, Alba, Crişana and Maramureş, with the members of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj and the clergy and laic members of the other eparchies of the Metropolitan See of Cluj, Alba, Crişana and Maramureş delegated by the Church National Assembly.

We learn some more details from the communiqué of the Press Office of the Metropolitan See of Cluj.

Tuesday, 15 March 2011, the special consultative meeting of the Metropolitan Synod of Cluj, Alba, Crişana and Maramureş, with the members of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj, as well as with the lawful members representing the other Eparchies of the Metropolitan See, was held in “Nicolae Ivan” Rotunda of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Cluj-Napoca, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The special consultative meeting was preceded by a Te Deum service celebrated in the Metropolitan Cathedral.

This consultative meeting presented the names of His Eminence Andrei of Alba Iulia and of His Grace Irineu Bistriţeanul, the two eligible candidates assigned by ballot during the consultation within the Metropolitan Synod of Cluj, in accordance with the stipulations of the Statutes for the Organisation and Functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church concerning the election of a metropolitan.

Because the two candidates meet the expectations of the members of the Eparchial Assembly of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj, as well as of the lawful members, they unanimously decided to preserve the present list, without completing it with the name of one more eligible hierarch.

So, the final list of the names of the two candidates that the Metropolitan Synod assigned and the Eparchial Assembly confirmed will be submitted to the Holy Synod which will meet in a working session Friday, 18 March 2011, at the Patriarchal Residence of Bucharest to elect the future Metropolitan of Cluj by ballot.
