The Patriarch Of Romania Celebrated The Hirotesia Service For 27 Priests Of The Archdiocese Of Bucharest

On 24 November 2011, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church celebrated the hirotesia religious service, in the historical chapel of the Patriarchal Residence with Saint Great Martyr George, Saint Prophet Daniil and Saint Pious Parascheva as saint patrons, raising 18 priests to the rank of iconomos stavroforos and 9 priests to that of iconomos, within the Archdiocese of Bucharest.

To end with the hirotesia religious service, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel delivered a sermon for the new priests awarded ranks in which he spoke about their responsibility as good iconoms in the parish: “This distinction is not only an act of generosity on behalf of the leadership of the Church, but also a confirmation of the virtues and works, of the many efforts you made in the course of time. Thus, it is also our moral duty to recognize the gifts that the Holy Spirit gave to the servants of the Church and which they cultivated. The iconomos stravroforos priest feels the joy of the one who multiplied the talents and must avoid the shame of the sly servant who buried his talent with laziness, as the hirotesia service says. These distinctions of iconomos stavroforos or iconomos refer not only to your own persons, but also to the communities you serve, to the respective parishes.”

Today’s hirotesia religious service was celebrated as a reward for the special results the priests got in the missionary work of the Church.
