The Patriarch of Romania at the Celebration of the Saint Patron Day of Munposan ’94 Hospital of Bucharest
3/10/2012
On 1 October 2012, feast of the Protection of the Mother of God, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, was present in the middle of the patients and physicians of Munposan Hospital ’94 of Bucharest, of which chapel celebrated its saint patron’s day.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Macarie, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Northern Europe, assisted by a group of priests and deacons.
On the occasion of the celebration of the saint patron’s day of the chapel of Munposan Hospital, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, present at the event, delivered a sermon in which he emphasised the importance of worshipping the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God: “The fact that several social settlements and Christian churches took Mother of God, with her Protection, as their saint patron, shows us that the Mother of God is worshipped as merciful and fast helper. She helps the helpless ones, and protects the poor, those with spiritual and physical sufferance. This is why this Christian hospital, the first of this kind after the revolution of 1989, has had the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God as protector since 1993. We have come here today to worship Mother of God, as well as to congratulate Mr. Codrut Munteanu and all his collaborators and all those who help this hospital be both healer of diseases and enlightener of souls through the prayers and the Christian faith of those who work here”.
His Beatitude has also mentioned that “the Orthodox Church sees medicine not only as a science, but also as a mystery of the presence and work of Christ through the people. There is both a scientific and a mystic part of medicine. No one understands the mystery of the presence of Christ in the physician who is enlightened to choose the best solution or treatment for the patient, as well as in the patient who suffers and prays for healing and especially for salvation”.
To end with the religious service, Dr. Codrut Munteanu, director and founder of the hospital received the Sanctus Stephanus Magnus Order on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, while Rev. Ionut Duta received the Worthiness Distinction of Saint Dimitrios the New. His Beatitude offered several religious books for the chapel.
The Patriarch of Romania visited Munposan Hospital and blessed its patients and medical staff.
