After a general custom, each birthday after the ninetieth is a jubilee. So, tomorrow His Holiness, the Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Maxim will have a jubilee because he turns the biblical age of 97.
Among the world Christian leaders he has been the doyen for long. There is no other higher clergy official, leader of an independent church, who has served as long as he has – since July 4th, 1971 when he was enthroned for Patriarch.
And His Holiness has not only outlived but he has overcome all of his rivals.
