The Moscow Patriarchate considers churches of Abkhazia as part of The Georgian Church

The Russian Orthodox Church considers churches of Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia as part of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

That was announced by the representative of the Moscow Patriarchate Bishop Illarion at a special press conference.

According to him the Moscow Patriarchate recognizes unity of the Georgian Church.

According to him again, it is necessary to protect interests of those clerics who are serving in the separatist regions, and that talks between the Patriarchs of Russia and Georgia on this issue will continue in 2010.

As to the visit of the Patriarch of Moscow to Georgia, according to Bishop Hilarion it will probably take place, but the exact date is not yet known.
