The Last Day Of Canon Of Saint Andrew The Cretan At The Patriarchal Cathedral

On 10 March the last part of Canon of Saint Andrew the Cretan was celebrated at the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest, in the presence of hundreds of faithful. Tonight, the service of the Great Canon was celebrated by His Grace Varsanufie Prahoveanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
The Great Canon reveals our sins and the need of repentance through a deep meditation on the Bible history, mentioned His Grace in his sermon.
“We are at the beginning of a spiritual journey, a journey that ends at the happy shore of the Resurrection of Christ. This spiritual journey is accompanied by many prayers and many rites that urge our soul to repentance, to the confession of sins, to humbleness and to a greater rapprochement to God. Just like any other man who prepares whatever is useful to him when he is going to travel, so must we prepare our soul for the meeting with the Resurrected Christ. And we cannot prepare our soul without tasting this beneficence of the repentance which cleans the soul, renews it, and gives it back to God as it was at the beginning”, said His Grace Varsanufie Prahoveanul, as Trinitas Radio station informs us.
The Canon pays special attention to man’s redemption from the bondage of sin, interceded by our Saviour through His sacrifice on the cross. Man’s falling into sin, his redemption through the Incarnation and Sacrifice of the Saviour, the Mystery of Repentance, the dogma of the Holy Trinity, the glorification of the Mother of God are the main dogmatic themes the author deals with.
