The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church Elected the New Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Sibiu
On 3 and 4 June 2015, the working session of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church was held at the Patriarchal Residence, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.
Wednesday, 3 June 2015, the first day of the working session, the new Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Sibiu was elected.
On 7 May 2015, the hierarchs of the Metropolitanate of Transylvania assigned by secret ballot the candidates for the position: rev archimandrite Ilarion Urs, exarch of the Archdiocese of Sibiu and abbot of Brancoveanu Monastery from Sambata de Sus locality (county of Brasov), and rev archimandrite Macarie Tugui, great ecclesiarch of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sibiu.
The Holy Synod elected rev Archimandrite Ilarion Urs, with the title of Fagarasanul for the vacancy of Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Sibiu, by secret ballot, with 25 valid votes out of 40.
The ordination of the new Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Sibiu will take place in the metropolitan cathedral of Sibiu, Sunday, 7 June 2015.
