(orthodoxmag.com) Thousands of faithful joined the church of St. Apostle Andrew in Patra, Greece, to pray and celebrate his blessed memory.

In Vespers of the Feast of St. Andrew, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Ilion addressed an inspired sermon (in Greek).

Patra is the city where St. Andrew was killed. His Relics were kept in the city’s cathedral until Byzantine Emperor Constantine took them to Constantinople. Later the Latin Crusaders destroyed Constantinople and the Orthodox Churches and they brough the Relics to Rome. In 1964 Pope Paul VI returned the head of St. Andrew to the city of Patra.
