
The Family of a Slain Orthodox Christian in Kerala Seeks Justice

Kerala-India: The family of slain Orthodox Christian Mathai a.k.a Ponnu eagerly seeks justice for manslaughter. Late Mathai was taken into custody on Tuesday (28/7/2020) by the officers of the Kerala Forest Department in Chittar, Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. Later his body was found in nearby well. The family states Mathai was taken into custody on a groundless accusation. No proper procedures were followed for his arrest by the officers of the forest department. The specific incident has typically received societal and considerable media attention.
The late Mathai is faithful of the Thupamon Disocese of the ancient Indian Orthodox Malankara Church. The leadership of the Malankara Church demanded prompt action from the part of the government and local police department. The accused officers have been transferred by the forest department amid the rising tension.
