It will be our pleasure to be presenting to The Nelson Cathedral a large Orthodox Icon of Jesus Christ for all the people of Nelson (no matter what their cultures are) for view, enjoy and to take comfort therefrom. This is our gesture towards the spiritual and cultural unity that exists between the Anglican and the Orthodox Churches in Nelson and throughout New Zealand.

This Icon, which has taken the Iconographer a year to prayerfully and traditionally paint in the 17th Century style onto wood, is very rarely seen outside of Orthodox Churches world wide and although it has both spiritual and cultural meanings, it is also an art object of much significance in its own right.
