Malankara-Kerala-India: ‘The demise of Catholicos-Mooppan Marthoma Paulose II has marked the end of an era for the Malankara Church’ stated Vipin Varghese, Spokesperson of the Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE Society. The late Primate of the Malankara Church has contributed a lot in the field of Social-philanthropy and Christian unity. Marthoma Paulose II reigned during one of the most challenging periods in the history of the Malankara Church. Catholicos-Mooppan Marthoma Paulose II stood for the integrity, and autocephaly of the Malankara Nasranis and the Malankara Church. Irrespective of the criticisms, he will be remembered as one of the greatest Catholici in the history of the Malankara Church.

The Catholicos undertook special care to boost inter-Orthodox unity by strengthening bilateral ties with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, Russian Orthodox Chruch, Orthodox Church in America, the Armenian Orthodox Chruch, Coptic Orthodox Church. He also took care to enhance the ecumenical relations of the Church, especially with the Vatican. Marthoma Paulose II paid a historic visit to Russia in 2019. The Primate also visited Ethiopia, Rome, Egypt, Lebanon, the UK, Armenia and many other countries.
