The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania Asks for Mentioning the Family in the Constitution as a Union between a Man and a Woman

Met on 20 June 2013 in the annual working session at the Patriarchate Palace under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania (according to the Statutes which stipulates chairmanship by rotation), the Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania asks for mentioning the natural and traditional institution of the family in the text of the Romanian Constitution as a union between a man and a woman. This position is also supported by all the member religious cults, but for the Unitarian Church of Transylvania.

The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romanian took notice of and approved the work of its commissions (Commission for family, good health and human dignity, Educational Commission, Commission for the cults’ patrimony and national patrimony, Economical – Juridical Commission) held on Wednesday, 19 June 2013, at the Patriarchate Palace.

We mention some of the other problems and decisions adopted:
–The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania supports and promotes the European civic initiative entitled “One of Us” (www.oneofus.eu), designed to provide the juridical protection in the European Union of the dignity, right to life and integrity of every human being ever since conception, according to the competence of the European Union;

–The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania appreciates the support granted by the Romanian State through the State Secretariat for Religious Cults and asks for periodical consultations in matters of common interest;

–The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania asks for speeding up the process of retrocession of the goods that used to belong to the religious cults and for identifying a legal solution for solving the effective retrocession of some representative buildings of the religious cults of Romania, namely: Makri Stojkovic building – House with Atlantes of Timişoara of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Timişoara, Szekely Miko Reformed College of St. Gheorghe city of the Reformed Church of Romania, building of Dinu Lipatti high school of Bucharest of the Romanian Orthodox Church and the building situated in 15 Al. D. Xenopol St. of Bucharest of the Romanian Church United with Rome, Greek-Catholic;

–The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania asks the central and local public authorities to observe the juridical laws and decisions forbidding the constructions of great dimensions close to the places of worship, to impose a new demeanour towards the churches historical or art monuments, and no longer issue licenses for such constructions in the areas protected.

In this sense, the situations of “Saint Joseph” Roman Catholic Cathedral of Bucharest, of the Reformed church no. 2 of Cluj-Napoca, and of Hunchiar Mosque of Constanţa were presented.

–The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania decided to send a letter to His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon, General Secretary of the UNO, concerning the state the Christians in Syria.

The Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania is an organisation with ethic, social, autonomous, apolitical, non-governmental character, with no legal personality and non-profit, made up of the:

–    Unitarian Church of Transylvania
–    Christian Church according to the Gospel of Romania – Union of the Christian Church according to the Gospel of Romania

According to the stipulations of the Consultative Council of the Religious Cults of Romania, from 1 October 2013 forward, the chairmanship of the Council will be taken over for one year time by the Roman Catholic Church.
