The Church National Assembly For 2010 – 2014 Was Set Up

The setting up meeting of the Church National Assembly of the Romanian Orthodox Church for the period 2010 – 2014 took place on, 3 September, in “Patriarch Teoctist” Aula Magna of the Patriarchal Palace, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, informs “Lumina” newspaper.

The session of the Church National Assembly was preceded by the Te Deum service that His Grace Ioachim Bacauanul, Assistant Bishop to the Archdiocese of Roman and Bacau celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, of the hierarchs of the Holy Synod and of the future members of the Church National Assembly.

The Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church opened the proceedings of the setting up meeting of the Church National Assembly and blessed those present, summing up the meeting agenda. Further on, the proceedings developed in commissions and then, the tenures of the members of every eparchy were validated.

To open with the first meeting of the new Church National Assembly for 2010 – 2014, the stipulations of articles 19 – 23 of the Statutes for the Organization and Functioning of the Romanian Orthodox Church concerning the Church National Assembly were read. The members of the standing commissions of the Church National Assembly were appointed (Administrative – Juridical and Validation Commission, Social Commission for Media Communications, Cultural Educational Commission; Economical, Budgetary Commission for Real Estate Patrimony – church assets, Commission for the Orthodox Romanians Abroad) and the Church National Council was set up, made up of 12 members, two persons for every Metropolitan See, one clergy and one laic.

To end with the meeting, the report of the Holy Synod Office was read concerning the preparatory state of the Cathedral of the Nation’s Salvation.

The Church National Assembly is the central deliberative body of the Romanian Orthodox Church for administrative, social, cultural, economical and patrimonial issues, elected for four years.
