The Christian Exodus From Historic Land

The Christians in Iraq have been forced to flee the historic land they have called home for over two millennia in the recent decades. The West and free societies have chosen to push for “peaceful” Muslim democracies in the Middle East, rather than pluralistic societies where individuals have the economic and religious freedoms to flourish. The year of 2014 is the turning point in this historic Christian Exodus from the Middle East.

The neglect of the historic Christian community in the Middle East by the West has led to the culmination of mass genocide and exodus of the Christians in Iraq. The Islamic State is threatening the Christians with the ultimatum to either convert to Islam, leave, or die. Instead of fighting for freedom for all people, the West has pushed for the appearance of freedom in an explicitly Islamic democracy with the tyranny of Sharia Law.

When President George W. Bush decided to free the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein’s tyranny, we won that war faster than any war we had fought. However, we transitioned to building a democracy, rather than securing the country and building the non-political institutions of civil society (churches, schools, and homes). Moreover, we left Iraq prematurely because of the American people’s desire to leave the Iraq war, but the Iraqi security forces were not ready to secure their own nation.

We should not be American nation builders building American-style governments. However, we live in a fallen and sinful world where evil exists, and for American liberty to survive at home, we must remain vigilant in our fight to defeat tyranny abroad. America should also never be the lone policeman of the world; therefore, we should build a coalition of free societies who will remain vigilant in the fight against tyranny together. The God-given human rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness are universal rights that need to be defended and protected around the world.
