The 2nd annual students’ conference “Students’ scholarship at a theological school” took place in Kyiv Theological Academy

The conference was dedicated to the 150th anniversary of repose of the greta Ukrainian poet Tarash Hryhorovych Shevchenko.

This year taking part in the conference’s work are the representatives of 11 theological schools of Ukraine: the Kyiv Theological Academy, Pochayiv, Kharkiv, Volyn, Tavriya, Poltava, Odessa Theological seminaries, Chernivtsi Theological Institute and Uzhghorod Theological Academy of Sts Cyril and Methodius.

Opening the plenary session, Rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil wished fruitful work to the participants. Thereafter the vice-rector for scientific work Olena Chernetrska read out the greeting word by the rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the NASU Yuri Boshytsky to the organizers and participants of the conference. The Kyiv Theological Academy has established partnership relations with the Kyiv University of Law, with which it signed cooperation agreement, according to which the sides will promote organization of the joint conferences and symposiums, perform joint publishing projects. This year the students of the Kyiv University of Law also took part in the work of the conference “Students’ scholarship at a theological school”.

The report by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine themed: «Taras Shevchenko’s religious worldview» was delivered by the secretary of the scientific council of the KTA archpriest Volodymyr Kotsaba. In his report His Beatitude noted: Shevchenko was not an atheist, but one cannot call him an essentially churched person is also hardly possible. For all his life Kobzar was in the spiritual search. He was searching for fulfillment of the highest truth, the Truth of God. Its search was not easy, full of doubts, rebel and freethinking. And today, remembering Taras Shevchenko, we, as Christians, have, first of all to raise sincere prayers for this talented man. The man, deeply rooted in the thousand-year tradition of Christian faith of te Ukrainian nation».

Delivering the report themed “Contribution of the Kyiv Theological Academy into development of the Ukrainian studies (ХІХ-ХХ centuries)” was rector of the Kyiv Theological schools Archbishop Antony of Boryspil. In his speech His Eminence Rector paid special attention to the development of the Ukrainian science in the walls of the Kyiv Theological School and its most active leaders.

Upon completion of the plenary session the conference’s work continued in five sections:

«History of the theological schools»;
«Theology and biblical studies»;
«Church-practical disciplines»;
«Church history»;
«Ukrainian studies».
