The 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Martyr Maxim Sandovich

On 5-6 September 2014, in the day of 100th anniversary of the martyrdom and the 20th anniversary of the canonization in the church of the Holy Trinity in Gorlice, there the liturgical celebrations were held in memorial of Saint Martyr Maxim Sandovich (the protomartyr of the Lemko people).

The celebration was presided by Metropolitan Sawa together with bishops of The Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church. There were also many clerics, guests and the faithful from the whole Poland.

On 6th of September, there was a Divine Liturgy, presided by Metropolitan Sawa together with Polish archbishops and bishops. After the Liturgy, a procession with the relics of Saint Maxim took place.

During the services, the choir of the church in Gorlice and the choir “Kliros” were singing.

It is also worth noting that in 2012 Saint Maxim became the patron of Gorlice city.

The ceremony of both anniversaries of the martyrdom and canonization of Saint Maxim will stay in memory of every person who was present there, for a long long time.
