Te Deum at the Romanian Patriarchate on the National Day of Romania
On 1 December 2014, the national day of Romania, at 12.00 hours, the Te Deum service was celebrated in the Patriarchal Cathedral according to the church tradition and to the decision of the Holy Synod. The religious service was celebrated by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania, assisted by a group of priests and deacons, in the presence of many faithful.
The liturgical answers were given by Tronos psalter chorus of the Patriarchal Cathedral. To end with the Te Deum, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel delivered a speech entitled “The Church supported the great union”.
Before celebrating the Te Deum service in the Patriarchal Cathedral, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated where the heroes of the Romanian nation who made the national unity of the Romanians in 1918 were remembered.
The Romanian Constitution stipulates that the day of 1 December is the National Day of our country, in the memory of over 100,000 Romanians gathered in Horea’s Field in Alba Iulia who asked for the Union of Transylvania with the country. The Great National Assembly made up of 1228 delegates adopted a resolution which confirmed the Union of all Romanians of Transylvania with those from the entire Banat (the territory of the rivers Mures, Tisa and Dunarea) and from the Hungarian land (Crisana, Satmar and Maramures) with Romania.
