Syrian Christians: ‘Why Is America at War with Us’

27/6/13

Syrian Christians are asking why the United States supports extremists who want to turn Syria into an Islamic state.

That testimony came during a congressional hearing on Syria’s religious minorities Tuesday.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., who chairs the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights, called on President Barack Obama to defend the rights of Syrian Christians.

In an opening statement at Tuesday’s hearing, Smith said statistics show “that Christians are even more fearful for their lives and safety than other segments of the Syrian population.”

Nina Shea, director of the Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom, testified that Islamic insurgents are targeting Christians for “ethno-religious cleansing.”

Christian Solidarity International CEO Dr. John Eibner, who also testified at the hearing, said displaced Christians are asking him, “Why is the U.S. at war against us?”

Eibner told the panel he recently returned from a trip to Syria where he met with “many resilient and courageous Syrians, mainly displaced Christians and church workers.”

“Victims recounted to me the religious cleansing of Christian neighborhoods in Homs and Qusair by armed jihadists who threatened them with death if they did not leave their homes,” he said.

“A Christian woman told me that before she fled Homs, she had seen the beheading in broad daylight of an Alawite girl who was pulled off a public minibus by armed jihadist,” he said.

Eibner said the United States should work with Russia to negotiate a peace rather than help Sunni Muslims turn the country into an Islamic state.

I hope the Orthodox Church gets the National Council of Churches behind this plea to stop aiding extremists. Without a request by individual dioceses and churches the National Council will not take a stand, so hopefully the individual churches will put out the call. It is time that Christians were united in demanding a halt to aid for the rebels.

Thank God for Chris Smith taking up this cause. I disagree with his right wing conservatism on many issues, but on this one he is right on, while the Democratic Congress and many of his Republican colleagues like John McCain and Lindsay Graham are off the wall.

USA-England is not only at war with Christians.., they are at war with everyone in this world dividing people by their religion or other social matters so they can control and Steal the people’s wealth. In that regard, USA-England government have no respect nor distinguish between nationality nor the belief of the people. Is a question of their economic and geopolitical interests first before anything But they do cry the crocodile cry feeling sorry for everyone yet they arms those who can provide a better situation for their interests. The idea behind such atrocity is the facts within the new world order that was introduced 20 years ago by Bush Sr. Part of that idea is divide the world between religious dividing people.

I think if the National Council of Churches and individual churches become proactive, the Congress will have to listen, even if up to now it has been very neoconservative.

these morons don’t listen to anyone. they just do what their masters are telling them to do which is of no interest to ordinary people. look at mccain. he actually illegally entered syria to meet w/ the rebels. so long as we have these corporation slaves working in senate and house, there is no hope

I agree with almost everything you’ve said, but Americans must become more and more vocal. It didn’t make a difference for a long time with the Vietnam War, but ultimately it did influence the Nixon Administration and Congress. The more there is blowback with the people, the more Congress will be forced to listen. It is a slow process but if people constantly resist and challenge it can make a difference.

I hope it happens. I saw how they oppressed the 99% opposition. the supreme court passes laws to benefit corporations, the banking cartels steels $ trillion and no one even get a spank. our tax money and youth go to war to profit corporations. the infrastructures are becoming a liability, our right are taken away more and more every day. I see no hope, but I wish you are right in your assumptions. my assumption is that the way we are printing money out of thin air, $ is doomed to collapse and the problem is that Iran has started a huge trend of not using us $ for trade and if the rest of the world follows that, $ will collapse so bad that we will starve to death. nuclear issue is just an excuse. the real issue is Iran holding the number 1 ranking in the world in energy resources”oil and gas” will not be left alone to trade in gold vs dollar.. the bankers will do anything even a nuclear war to preserve the $. as is.

[…] Meanwhile in Syria, where for some strange reason our government thinks it knows what it’s doing, a Franciscan monk was shot, while other folks, possibly Christians, possibly not, were beheaded by rebel forces there. Rebel forces, whom we so forthrightly believe to be worthy of arming and training since November last year. Which has many Christians in Syria asking the question, “Why is America at war with us?” […]

Commenters, and those who bragged about their knowledge and bla bla bla, you definitely no nothing about Syrian Christians, Syrian Muslims and most importantly the Syrian conflict nowadays. Just check the link provided below and think for couple of minutes (though I think you need at least a full weekend) to realize that you’re acting like parrots.
