Syria to Rebuild the Armenian Genocide Memorial Church in Der Zor

Damascus-Syria: President Bashar Al Assad of Syria has promised to rebuild the destroyed Armenian Genocide Memorial Church in Der Zor. The decision was taken in a meeting between then Syrian Present and Syrian-Armenians and Armenian businessmen.

Dedicated to the Martyrs and victims of the Armenian genocide, Der Zor Church and its complex was consecrated by in 1991 by Catholicos Karekin II.

On 21 September 2014, the Church and the memorial complex was destroyed probably by the ISIS militants or similar other terrorist groups. This Church is under the jurisdiction of the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia (Greater House of Cilicia).
