Standing Committee of the Oriental Orthodox Churches meet at Cairo

CAIRO: The Standing Committee of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East met at St. Mark’s Centre, Nasr City in Cairo on Dec 2nd. Thee meeting was held as commissioned by the Heads of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East. HG Anba Bishoy – Secretary to the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church, HG Mor Theophilus George Saliba – Metropolitan of Mt. Lebanon & Secretary to the Holy Synod of the Syrian Orthodox Church, HG Mor Ph ilexinosMatthias Nayis – Patriarchal Assistant of the Syrian Orthodox Church, HG Sebouh Sarkissian of the Armenian Orthodox Church, HG Nareg Almazian of the Armenian Orthodox Church and Mr. Guirgis Saleh – Secretary General of the Council of Churches of the Middle East attended the meeting.

Various issues concerning the Oriental orthodox family in the Middle east, the Christian – Muslim Dialogue and the upcoming General Assembly of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in November 2011 were the main topics on the agenda.

Later in the evening the Standing Committee members were received by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church. His Holiness gave Apostolic benediction to the members of the Committee, gave his advise on the different topics on the agenda and extended his warm regards to His Holiness Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas – The Patriarch of Antioch and His Holiness Aram I – The Catholicose of Armenian Orthodox Church.

The delegates in turn thanked His Holiness for hosting the meeting and all the hospitality accorded to them by the Coptic Orthodox Church.
